An Administration Police officer on Sunday evening shot dead a Probox driver after he allegedly refused to give him a bribe.

Confirming the shooting, Transmara West Sub-county Police boss Dahir Abdulahi said that the cop shot dead the driver at Pusangi-Esoit road in Trans Mara, Narok County following an altercation with the police. 

The victim, who was aged 21, died on the spot. The cop, later on, surrendered to the police after the incident.

 “The accused after committing the offence surrendered at Esoit Patrol Base where he was later taken to Kilgoris Police Station,” he said. 

He also said that investigation into the matter has kicked off. The police boss also said that the Probox driver had another occupant in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

 The driver came across a barrier on the road but refused to give bribe after the demand. 

The cop, who was later identified as APC Wilson Kortom, is said to have stopped the driver which he did. 

 Kortom who is attached to the Mbata club in Lolgoria decided to open fire leaving the driver dead. 

The deceased’s body was transferred to St Joseph’s Mission Hospital. 

Burial plans have not been revealed pending an autopsy on the body of the victim.
