In a tweet, Kuria said those talking about Collymore's replacement should allow other Kenyans time to mourn.

"It is extremely callous for people to start jostling to replace Bob Collymore and reckless media like Citizen Digital fueling the same. Give us time to mourn Bob in peace @citizentvkenya," he said.

Succession debate has heated up in the country after Michael Joseph was appointed the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Safaricom on Tuesday.

However, Kenyans and leaders elicited mixed reactions over the appointment.

Michael Joseph is the current chairman of Kenya Airways and a former CEO of Safaricom.

He served as Safaricom CEO from July 2000 to November 2010 before handing over to Collymore.

Michael Joseph's re-appointed as CEO has not been received positively by a section of Kenyans and several political leaders.

State House Digital Communication Director Dennis Itumbi is among those who questioned the decision by Safaricom's Board.

"I still hope @SafaricomPLC will settle for @sylmulinge as CEO. That is my prayer. Amen," said Dennis Itumbi in a tweet.
