Chaos emerged on Tuesday at the Nairobi City Hall after Members of County Assembly (MCAs) disagreed over the impeachment of Nairobi County Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Reports from The Star indicate that the confusion erupted after MCAs supporting the impeachment of Elachi were cut short by those opposing the impeachment while addressing the media.
The chaos got ugly as stones and water bottles were thrown at some of the Jubilee MCAs hence bring their press conference to an end.
Those who opposed Elachi's impeachment were heard shouting that "Elachi must be respected".
A section of MCAs from both Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) agreed to oppose the motion to impeach Elachi.
Nairobi West MCA Maurice confirmed that ODM MCAs supported Elachi.
“As a party, we have a stand and as ODM MCAs we are in support of Elachi as the speaker,” he said.
According to Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u the new County Assembly Service Board was facing opposition from a few individuals.
“As you look we have more numbers from both Jubilee and ODM parties and we are in support of Elachi and Governor Sonko,” Ndung’u stated.
He added that the main objective of the board was to create change and development.
"As a member of the board, we want change and development in the county and that has stalled for a long time, but change is here," he noted.
