Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has hinted at contesting for the gubernatorial seat in 2022 upon the retirement of Governor Kivutha Kibwana.
In an exclusive interview with KTNs Point Blank on Wednesday, Mutula said that he will consider contesting for the seat if he receives overwhelming support for the same.
He noted that he has enjoyed working with the incumbent governor and he might be the best bet for the position only if his people endorse his candidature for the governorship in 2022.
The Makueni Senator affirmed that there is more to be done to change the lives of the residents and a change in the leadership could be the deal-breaker.
He, however, said that it is not mandatory that he will throw the hat in the ring when Kibwana leaves office upon the completion of his second and last term as the county boss. Mutula also noted that he is not afraid of not winning the contest because that is part of politics.
“I may or may not but if the opportunity arises, the people of Makueni enjoy my confidence. But I do not want in the process of them enjoying my confidence with me sitting in the Senate that I’m conflicted about the position. If it occurs to me that I’m the right person to lead Makueni into the Promised Land, I will not hesitate because I’m not afraid of winning or losing because if I lose I go and practice law,” he said.
