Kiharu residents on Monday protested at Mukangu Shopping Center, carrying anti-Nyoro banners and accusing him of secretly planning to relocate Kiharu Vocational Training Institute to Kiambugi.

The residents said that the MP was planning to move the college to the ward where he hails from, despite an initial plan made by former MP and current Muranga Senator Irungu Kang'ata directing that it be established in Mukangu.

A letter dated June 10, 2015, indicates that Kang'ata had had allocated Sh10 million towards the project, which the residents say must be established in Mukangu in Wangu Ward.

“Kindly proceed to do the necessary arrangements to fast-track the establishment of the institute especially in areas of preparing an architectural and structural drawing and approvals, the requisite bills of quantities, acquiring the requisite Nema approvals and any other documentation that may hinder implementation. Kiharu CDF in its 2015-2016 budget will set aside Sh10 million for the project,” reads the letter, as was seen by the Nation.

Wangu Ward MCA said that attempts to seek Principal Secretary in charge of vocational training Kevit Desai's attention on the issue have been futile, adding that the matter will now be taken to the courts.

“I have written to Mr Kevit Desai over the relocation of the college and no response is forthcoming. We shall file the matter in court and present our grievances to seek our justice. It is unfair, selfish and illegal,” said Mr Isaac Kamote.

Confirming the change of construction sites, Mr Nyoro said that the college cannot be built in Mukangu since there already exists the Mukangu Polytechnic in the same area, accusing Kamote of pushing personal interests.

"The land where Mr Kamote wants the institute constructed has an active polytechnic and we can't kill an institution because of another one. He wants to ensure the institute is built there since he owns land and wants to construct hostels for his own gain" he said.
