Police officers in Nyamira County are pursuing for a 50-year-old man who allegedly defiled his daughter aged one year and 10 months old.
The shocking incident happened on Saturday at Magere sub-location in Bomwagamo ward, Nyamira County.
Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirmed the incident saying the suspect identified as Bernard Omayio Kegwaro was left to take care of the minor when he ended up defiling her.
"The victim's mother went to harvest coffee at the family farm when she left the minor with the suspect. Upon returning, the victim's mother found her husband washing the minor her private parts which were bleeding," said the commissioner as reported by Egesa FM.
The commissioner said immediately the minor was rushed to Ekerenyo Hospital where it was established that she had been defiled.
"Kegwaro went into hiding after his wife reported the matter to police. Police officers have intensified search to arrest the suspect. I urge members of the public to cooperate with police to ease the arrest of the suspect," said Mariba.
He confirmed that the victim is responding well to medication and warned men against taking advantage of minors to engage in illicit sex.
