It will be almost impossible to tame Deputy President William Ruto's growing influence in the Mt Kenya region, political analyst Herman Manyora has said.
Despite being considered the political bedrock of President Uhuru Kenyatta, Uhuru has been facing rebellion from area politicians lately, especially regarding his stand on reforms.
Some politicians have contradicted his support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force, which is expected to propose a referendum, siding with Ruto in opposing the yet-to-be released proposal.
Manyora now says that the same is most likely the situation on the ground, observing that the DP has since taken over the region and will be influencing its political decisions.
He added that taking it back as was the case before will be a very tough job, as Ruto has completely won the hearts of the youth, who form the majority of the population.
"Central Kenya is the home of William Ruto, that's where he rules supreme, especially among the hustler nation whoa re the majority. To remove him from there is such a tall order," he said on his YouTube analysis Channel, Saturday.
He predicted that the region will reject the proposals of the BBI taskforce despite Uhuru's vow to support it, under the influence of the DP who also has his reservations about it.
According to Manyora, the only way the region can support a referendum, is if it has something that will keep Uhuru in power post his 2022 retirement.
He said that to lure the region into supporting proposed amendments, he must assure Mt Kenya that he will be remaining in power or jumping to the Prime Minister's position.
"BBI will only go through if Uhuru makes it clear that he is going for a powerful position," he added.
However, Uhuru has since made it clear that he is not interested in any position. On Friday he said that he is actually tired of leadership and only wants but leave behind and united nation.
