Vehicles playing Lamu-Garsen-Mombasa route have been allowed to operate a day after a suspected Al-Shabaab attack in the region.
The Al-Shabaab militants unleashed terror on the travellers in both Mombasa Raha and Simba Coach, killing three people on the spot.
Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia said that normalcy had been restored in the region after the standoff.
John Elungata, the Coast Regional Coordinator, said vehicles can now use the route even as the KDF team pursues the Al-Shabaab militants.
“We insist on the need for bus companies and other passenger vehicles to adhere to movement restrictions, including travelling in a convoy escorted by police. There should be no evasion of escorts. We have a full escort schedule ... all vehicle owners must maintain the prescribed procedure," he said on Friday.
"Operations against criminal elements and groups are continuing under the county security committee, which includes KDF. It’s a multi-agency effort, therefore residents shouldn’t be worried."
On the passengers who escaped following the attack, Elungata said they had all been accounted for.
“No one remains in the bush. All the passengers in the two vehicles - Simba Coach and Mombasa Raha - have been accounted for. The TSS bus wasn’t attacked. The bush is clear,” he said.
On Thursday, Elungata had said that KDF team managed to kill four Al-Shabaab militants, capturing one in the process.
