In a tweet on Tuesday, Kipkorir said that the Mau should be conserved for the sake of future generations.

He also asked the government to ensure that other forests including Mt. Kenya, Cherangany Hills and Mount Elgon are conserved.

The lawyer divulged that it is unfortunate that some individuals have decided to encroach forests when they should be preserved because they are water catchment areas. He also asked the government to arrest and charged those opposed to the eviction plans with immediate effect.

“I fully support the objective of the Government to preserve all our Water Towers including but not limited to Mount Kenya, Mau Forest, Mount Elgon, Cherang’any Hills et al ... All those squatting in them must be removed. Arrest Politicians that undermine this effort,” he tweeted.

The issue of the Mau eviction has continued to elicit mixed reactions from different quarters. Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Kericho counterpart Aaron Cheruyoit have been opposed to the eviction.

They have affirmed that they will not allow the government to evict the voters from the region unless they settle them elsewhere. More than 6000 persons risk eviction from the forest land.
