In a tweet on Friday, the former presidential hopeful noted that integrity in leadership is one of the key focus of his Punguza Mizigo referendum push, which is currently before the county assemblies.

He said that the Bill seeks to ensure that leaders and people holding public offices honour their word and stick to the promises they make in public and private.

"One of the thematic focuses of #PunguzaMizigoBill2019 is to enforce integrity in leadership and those holding public office. Leaders must be honest with what they say in private and in public and must honour their words to restore integrity in offices they hold," he said.

This was in reference to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna's unfulfilled vow to resign if Aukot managed to collect the minimum one million signatures needed to initiate the referendum bid.

In an interview on KBC before the kickoff of the signature hunt, the former Nairobi senatorial aspirant had expressed doubts that Aukot would succeed, putting his position as a bet.

"I want to say in front of this country if Thirdway Alliance is able to raise one million signatures I will resign as the secretary-general of ODM," he said.

Sifuna is still in office about a month after 1.2 of the 1.4 million signatures collected by Aukot's team were approved by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
