Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga has criticised Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's decision to appoint a deputy, despite being barred from office.
The county boss, who is facing corruption charges, on Monday picked County Disaster Management Chief Officer Anne Kananu Mwenda to fill the vacant position.
However, Wanga pointed out that the move goes against a court order barring him from office, which technically means he cannot dispense his executive powers as a governor.
She said the governor could have been misadvised, adding that he needs to be careful not to interfere with the bail terms issued before his release, by Justice Douglas Ogoti late last year.
"I think the advisors of the governor on that matter maybe have not reviewed Mumbi Ngugi's ruling. I really just hope that Governor Sonko can be advised to go by the terms of his bail so that he doesn't land into further trouble," she said on Tuesday during an interview on Citizen TV's Daybreak show.
"If you read Mumbi Ngugi's ruling, it's very clear that the barring is not from physical space it's from performing functions of the office," she added.
