A section of Nyamira leaders has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta following his decision to pick yet another scholar from the region to head a top government office.
The head of state nominated Dr Margaret Nyang'ate Nyakang'o to head the budget office pending approval by the National Assembly.
Until her appointment, Nyakang'o has been a lecturer at KCA University in Nairobi. She also worked at Kenya National Bureau of Statistics.
Speaking at the assembly on Tuesday, leaders led by Majority Leader Duke Masira said the nomination was a testament that Uhuru cherishes competence.
"We don't want to view this from the community perspective. Those who know her can tell you that it's a nice pick. We thank the president for this favour," he said.
Gesima MCA Charles Maroko said Ms Nyakang'o should be approved by the assembly without any delay to start running the budget office.
"Infact our MPs should tell us that they will pass the name before December. It's an important office and she's capable. We thank the president."
Others who welcomed the move were nominated MCAs Irene Sese, George Mosiori, Irene Mayaka and a host of youth leaders from Nyamira.
Dr Nyakang'o joined the list of officials who have been recognized by Uhuru. Among top appointments from the region include Solicitor General Ken Ogeto and NLC chairman Otachi Bwomanwa.
