National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani has said that the nation will have the actual 2019 census data in December.
This is after the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Monday released the preliminary results, indicating that the total population of Kenyans stands at 47.6 million.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, the CS said that finer details of the headcount, which was conducted two months ago, will be out before the end of the year.
“We want to assure Kenyans that by end of December we are going to have all the other information that we need," he said.
He also lauded KNBS for releasing the preliminary results early. The census report was handed to President Uhuru Kenyatta by KNBS Director Zachary Mwangi on Monday.
The CS said that the early release of the results was realised due to the use of technology, which has seen the nation break the record on the duration it has been taking in releasing such details.
"We need to congratulate the team that conducted the national census. For the first time in the history of this country we were able to have the initial results in two months," he stated.
The report indicates that Nairobi leads in the country's population with an upward of four million people, followed by Kiambu, data that will be used by the government for planning purposes.
However, some political leaders have contested the results, claiming that they don't reflect the actual number of people in their counties.
