National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is expected to announce the Kibra Parliamentary seat vacant following the demise of its former MP Ken Okoth.
The contest between opposition leader Raila Odinga's allies in ODM is expected to kick off after the seat is declared vacant by Muturi.
Upon the declaration, The Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati and his team are anticipated to start working on the programme for the by-election after the issue of the writs by the Speaker.
The exercise will be conducted within three months after the declaration.
ODM remains the favourite party to clinch the seat considering the support it has enjoyed over the years.
National Assembly Clerk Michael Sialai has confirmed the Speaker’s plan to declare the seat vacant before Friday or on the said date.
“As you know, the 21 days start counting a day after the death of the member, which means that the days shall elapse on Friday this week. As we talk the notice is already being worked on,” Sialai.
Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer.
