This is after the High Court in Nairobi on Wednesday ordered directors of Italian firm CMC Di Ravenna to appear in court over the matter.

Justice Mumbi Ngugi has directed the contractors to appear before the court so that they can shed more light on the matter failure to which unspecified action will be taken against them.

The Judge ruled that there is no way their lawyer will be allowed to take plea on their behalf.

The prosecution told the court that the Kenyan officials had given the tender to the CMC Di Ravenna for the construction of the dams yet it had filed for bankruptcy proceedings back in Italy.

The contractors colluded with the Kenyan officials to inflate the cost from an original cost of Sh46 billion to Sh63 billion.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecution later ordered for the arrest of former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge and 10 other officials of the government over the project.

The new development comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered for the cancellation of the Kimwarer project.

The head of state made the conclusion when he received the report on the same.
