Wajir County Women Representative Fatuma Gedi has hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ukur Yattani as the acting National Treasury CS.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Gedi said that Yatani's appointment is a reward to the people of North Eastern region. She also stated that Yattani's appointment is based on merit and experience.
"Congrats Hon.(Amb.) Ukur Yatani Kanacho, CS for the Ministry of Labour & Social Protection for your appointment as acting Finance CS.
On behalf of the people of Wajir County and NFD, I send message of gratitude to President Uhuru for rewarding merit and experience from the region" the MP tweeted.
On Wednesday, Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Yattani as the CS of National Treasury and Planning in an acting capacity. The former Marsabit Governor will now hold two positions in the government until President Kenyatta names a permanent replacement.
His appointment comes days after former Treasury CS Henry Rotich was arraigned in court over the multi-billion billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
Rotich was arraigned and charged alongside his Principal Secretary (PS) Kamau Thugge and other suspects.
The former CS was, however, freed on Sh50 Million bond with a surety of similar amount or an alternative cash bail of Sh15 million. The case will be mentioned on August 8.
