Speaking over the weekend, the legislator said that he supported the move to reduce the burden on taxpayers that the bill was pushing but expressed his displeasure at the single 7-year term that the bill was advocating.

"In reducing the burden some are saying we need to have a president who will serve a single 7-year term... If you install a president who knows he will go home after seven years, that president will become a dictator. (Katika hio kupunguza mzigo wengine wamesema tuwe na president ambaye anaenda term moja kwa miaka saba... Ukichukua raisi siku moja ama ukiweka raisi ambaye anajua atafanya kazi kwa miaka alafu aende nyumbani, kutoka mwanzo kutoka ile siku anaingia ofisini huyo raisi atakuwa dikteta.)," the West Mugirango legislator said.

Kemosi's intervention comes amid a raging debate on whether constituencies should be reduced to save the taxpayer money.

Scores of MPs have rejected the proposal to reduce the number of parliamentarians and the scrapping of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

County assemblies across the 47 counties will have an opportunity to vote on the bill, a vote which will determine its fate.
