Kenya's biggest Telco company Safaricom on Thursday announced that Peter Ndegwa will be its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as from April 1, 2020.
Very little is however known about the man who is set to replace Safaricom's former CEO Bob Collymore who died in July this year after suffering from cancer.
Ndegwa, who is currently the Diageo Continental Europe based in Britain got his secondary school education from Starehe Boys Centre.
He then proceeded to the University of Nairobi (UoN) where he studied a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He moved to the London Business School for his MBA.
The UoN graduate also is part of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) where he is a certified accountant.
After he completed his studies at the London Business School, Ndegwa worked in corporate advisory and project management at leading European and American banks and insurance companies.
According to Citizen Digital, Ndegwa became a consultant for the global consulting firm PwC in 1996. He consequently moved to London, UK. He nonetheless changed his roles at PwC three years later as he moved from the Accountancy to Corporate Finance Unit.
Ndegwa moved back to Kenya in 2002 where he took up several assignments on accountancy and financial services areas.
In 2004, he became the Strategy Director of East African Breweries Limited (EABL) whose subsidiary was based in Nairobi. He is reported to have had major achievements at the company before he was transferred to Guinness Ghana Breweries plc. He was later on named as the CEO of Guinness Nigeria plc.
From Nigeria, Ndegwa went back to Europe in July 2018 where took up the role of the managing director of Diageo Continental Europe; a role which he holds up to date.
Apart from his busy roles at work, the new Safaricom boss is also a husband and a father of one.
