Two people have been admitted to hospital while 20 were treated and discharged at Magugu-ini in Thika East after consuming what is believed to be a contaminated mutura.
The victims complained of stomachache and diarrhoea after consuming the mutura on Monday evening and were taken to nearby Maguguini Dispensary on Tuesday.
"We had consumed the mutura with my grandson but he started complaining of severe stomach ache on Tuesday morning. He then started to diarrhoea. Moments later I started to experience the same feeling which made us to seek medical attention at Magugu ini Dispensary," Eunice Wamaitha, a victim said on Wednesday.
The victims say that they had bought the mutura from a veteran seller identified as just 'WaJimmy'.
"I am a regular buyer of mutura and soup at WaJimmy's place especially when coming from work in the evening. I have never experienced any problem with his mutura but on Monday I knew that something was amiss when I noted a funny taste in the mutura," said John Mwangi, another victim.
Samuel Wanyoike, a local shopkeeper says that many people came to buy 'Eno' packets at his shop on Tuesday morning only to hear later that some people had consumed a contaminated mutura.
This comes in as 23 public health officers in Kiambu County were interdicted recently for what was termed as gross misconduct.
