According to area assistant chief Enock Nyangena, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from locals who feared for disease outbreak.
The administrator said he was with Nyumba Kumi officials searching for the illicit brew when they realized the suspects were selling the meat to people who were drunk and unable to question where the animal was slaughtered.
“We received information from the public that the meat was from a dead cow but the suspects decided to sell it to people who were drunk and could not know that the animal had died. The suspects must face the law for putting lives of people in danger,” said the chief.
Nyangena warned residents against buying meat from anywhere.
“I urge residents to only buy meat from a recognized butchery and anyone selling meat at his or her home should be authorized by veterinary officers to do so,” he added.
