Governor Mike Sonko may have been thrown to political limbo following decision by his deputy, Polycarp Igathe, to resign from the coveted seat.
And with the duo having just slightly served in five months, Sonko's next decision in response to unfolding events may as well determine his destiny.
"It is something bad that you may not wish to happen for a governor. It opens so many loopholes including impeachment," says Dismas Mokua.
He adds: "He has two options either to decline resignation of the deputy and call for negotiations or just swallow it and move on."
Should he opt to embrace negotiations, the decision may see President Uhuru Kenyatta, a close ally of the duo involved.
And if Sonko decides to accept the situation, Mokua adds, he will have to serve without a deputy due to constitutional limitations, a move that could further expose his leadership.
