According to a good Samaritan, Kennedy Mwoho, the mother of the minor was not identified. It is however alleged that the baby girl belongs to a young girl who finished her secondary school course last year.

Reports indicate that the child might have been dumped near the sewage river right after birth and the mother went underground.

Mwoho who was passing by allegedly heard the baby cry and sought to know where the noise was coming from just to find a baby lying near the river.

"I immediately called the police. Police are yet to find the baby's mother," he said.

Confirming the incident, John Gathimaini a police officer in charge of interrogation in Wandui AP post said this was the second case in two years.

"We had a similar incident last year and the baby was dumped in the same sewage river but the mother was arrested and is still serving her five year jail term," he said.

The baby was taken to Kanyoni Dispensary for first aid as police investigate the matter further.
