Two people died over the weekend while six others were seriously injured after a matatu they were travelling in collided head on with a truck at Marula trading centre near Naivasha.
According to police, the accident along the Nakuru-Naivasha highway was caused by a truck driver who was trying to overtake other vehicles before he collided with the matatu.
The injured were rushed to the Naivasha sub-county hospital but succumbed before receiving treatment.
Confirming the incident, Naivasha deputy OCPD Agnes Amojong said the truck was heading to Nakuru while the matatu was heading to Nairobi from Nyahururu.
She said they are holding the truck driver who she blamed for the road accident.
Amojong urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to outlined traffic regulations to curb accidents.
She revealed that a crackdown on errant motorists will be launched as schools re-open from next week.
