The debate on whether to have the constitution amended through the referendum has continued with two MPs Alice Wahome of Jubilee and Gladys Wanga of ODM openly disagreeing over the matter.
The two who were hosted on Power Breakfast show of Citizen TV on Tuesday gave different opinions on the issue of the referendum with Wanga supporting it while Wahome rejected the idea.
The Homa Bay Women representative said that a referendum was necessary in order to come up with a structure of government that is ‘working’ by creating various other seats in the government.
“We need to have a conversation where we evaluate whether this current structure of government is working. I do not think it hurts to make changes to the constitution, so long as a country we remain cohesive and move forward,” Wanga said.
On the other said Alice Wahome who is the current Kandara MP, said that changing the constitution and coming up with additional seats will not be a solution to the problems that are facing Kenyans.
“There are no additional seats that will bring unity or peace in this country. What will unite us is politics of inclusiveness,” Wahome said.
However, the two politicians agreed that Kenyans need to work together for development purposes.
