Two carwash attendants who pleaded guilty to stealing Sh90,000 from a client have been ordered by a Kisumu Court to negotiate with the complainant on how to repay the money.

This is after the accused persons Vincent Oromo and Gregory Ocholla asked for forgiveness and said they were willing to repay the money before principal magistrate Thomas Obutu on Monday.

According to the previous hearings, Vincel Oporo took his Toyota Probox car to the carwash within Kisumu Town and in the car there was a wallet containing his ATM card and its pin.

The two accused persons allegedly took it and hid the ATM together with the pin.

After two days, Oporo started receiving text messages from his bank about a withdrawal of Sh10,000 but he ignored it as he thought it was an error.

“Previously I have received such texts about transactions that I did not authorise and upon inquiring with the bank I was told it was all in error. Therefore I had to ignore this one too,” said Oporo.

Oporo said that after receiving the text messages for a week he got concerned and decided to visit his bank in Kisumu, where he received the news that indeed there have been transactions going on in his account.

The matter was reported to the police who immediately launched investigations into the matter and traced the lost ATM to the two carwash attendants.

They were given until January 18 to come up with a way of repaying the money or else be sentenced.
