A Mombasa court on Monday jailed two people for one month each after they refused to pay Sh130 food bill.
The court heard that the two failed to pay the money after they had eaten at a Mombasa food kiosk.
The prosecution said the suspects Peter John and Martin Mwangi ordered meat and soup and chili pepper.
The court further heard that when Vincent Mulwa, a waiter asked the suspects to pay the bill, they started insulting him and threatened to stab him with a knife if he continued to ask for the money.
The suspects appeared before Mombasa resident magistrate Edgar Kagoni.
While sentencing them, the magistrate said the suspect deserved the sentence to send a warning to others with similar habits to eat without paying at kiosks.
Kagoni said the suspects will spend one month in jail and they won’t be placed on probation as they had requested saying they will be a threat to other food vendors if released.
The magistrate urged food vendors to report such people who after eating they don’t pay so that they can be sent to jail too.
