Two young men faced an angry mob who almost beat them to death along Makutano Kyumbi- Machakos road on Saturday morning.
The two are said to have been attempting to steal a handbag from a woman in a matatu traveling to Machakos.
According to Machakos OCPD Adiel Nyange, the woman said she had been carrying more than Sh100,000 in her handbag and she did not know how the two men came to find out that she had good amount of money.
"Police arrived at the scene at least early enough to find the suspects alive and they were rushed to Machakos level 5 hospital before being taken to Machakos police station to await court summoning on Monday,'' explained OCPD Nyange.
The OCPD said that the two men were armed with a knife and threatened the woman to peacefully give them her handbag upon which she raised alarm.
Passengers pushed out the suspects from the matatu which was parked on the roadside, where they beat and stoned the suspects badly.
Nyange advised the people against carrying a lot of liquid cash money, asking them to use banking, Mpesa services or credit cards instead.
