A number of elders from Rift Valley have resolved to support Cord principal Raia Odinga for the presidency in the August elections.
Elders drawn from Kericho, Bomet, Nandi, and Narok counties made the resolution to back Raila alongside counterparts from Nyanza counties.
According to Kipsigis Council of Elders’ secretary Edwine Kimetto the decision to support Odinga was infuenced by the opposition chief's “relentless support on the protection of the Mau water catchment and his move to have controversial Itare dam project stopped.”
Speaking to the nation, Kimetto said that elders from the communities will rally residents to vote for Odinga, as he safeguards their interests.
Already, a rally is the works to unveil Odinga as the preferred presidential candidate for Rift Valley residents.Mr Kimetto said that they will hold of rallies Rift Valley region to drum up support for Mr Odinga.
“We have already planned the inaugural rally at Sosiot in Kericho County on January 7 and invited Raila Odinga among other leaders including governors,” Kimetto said.
