Two suspected thieves were on Friday chased away from a tea buying center in Sengera Ikobe Manga Nyamira County for allegedly stealing tea kilos from farmers.
Tea farmers claimed that the two who are committee members at the tea buying center have been stealing at least 2 kilos from each farmer daily to add to theirs.
“We can’t continue having committee members who are thieves. The kilos they have stolen from us are enough for them to go and start a new tea buying center where they will be taking their tea leaves to be collected from there to be taken to the factory but not here,” said Joseph Gisemba, one of the farmers.
Gisemba called on farmers to be on high alert to ensure the remaining committee members are not colluding with factory officials to steal their kilos.
Widen Barongo an official at Sengera Ikobe tea buying center said he asked the two thieves to stop their bad ways but they could not hear him.
“I have been trying to advice the two to stop stealing kilos from farmers but they could not take in my advice. Let them now learn a lesson because they will not be allowed to bring their tea leaves hear,” said Barongo.
