Kenya Dairy Board Manager Kisii Branch David Akunga has warned Kisii County dairy milk vendors against law contravention in selling milk.
Speaking on Sunday, Akunga disclosed that they are undertaking a crackdown to arrest those who are breaking hygiene rules.
Akunga warned the vendors who sell the commodity in an open air, use plastic containers, lack health letter allowing them to operate such business and other compliances saying that lack of the above mentioned requirement pose a great health risks to consumers.
He advised those who have ventured into the business to embrace hygienic measures and use containers made of aluminium that do not contaminate milk easily.
"I ask milk vendors to conduct their businesses indoors because this reduces chances of contaminating the milk. I also warn those who use plastic containers and lack health letters that they risk being arrested,” said Akunga.
Akunga said that they arrested 20 people from the outskirts of Kisii town who will be arraigned in Court on Monday for going against the laws.
"Anybody found going against the rules will not be spared. We arrested 20 people last week alone from Menyinkwa, Mwembe, Jogoo, Nyamataro, and Daraja Mbili,” reiterated Akunga.
