A Narok court has released on bond 20 individuals on Sh.100, 000 bonds each or cash bail payment of similar amount after pleading not guilty of possessing banned plastic bags.
The accused appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma on Tuesday.
The court heard that the three men and seventeen women were on January 26, 2018, in Narok East Sub County, contrary to the National Environment and Management Authority (NEMA) regulations, were found in possession of plastic bags.
They were found selling agricultural products along the road at the center thereafter arrested.
The court further directed the prosecutor to take photos of the exhibits to be produced in court later as exhibits as the goods are highly perishable as their case has been slated for hearing on 23rd and 26th February this year.
NEMA Director Patrick Lekenit who spoke to journalists reiterated that as part of the operation to get rid of plastics in Narok more shall be meted against those found culpable.
Lekenit regretted that despite the sensitization period on the ban of the polythene bags some people were still dealing with the product.
