20 inmates at the Kisii prison were on Tuesday baptised after successfully completing a three-month bible study course.
According to Kisii Prison Chaplain SDA section, Christine Nyagaka a total of 25 inmates started the programme though only 20 of them successfully completed it.
“The three months long bible study has been very key for the prisoners as it helps them realise that God has a purpose for them," said Nyagaka.
"It also ensures that every one of them understands the reason they should repent,” she added.
The chaplain said that though the prison instills moral values to the inmates, the church’s mandate in reforming them was necessary to fill the void left by the corrective measures from the prison officers.
She pointed out that during the sessions, inmates are taught how to take care of their bodies, eat healthily and co-exist with other members of the society.
“Most of the inmates have now known their purposes in life and after the baptism they will be guided on how to remain holy,” she added.
The inmates were baptised at Nyanchwa Seventh-day Adventist Conference poolside.
