Rioga sub-location Assistant Chief Bosire Sambu warned illicit brewers against their continued brewing activity in the area.
Speaking after a crackdown on suspected brewer’s compound yesterday, Chief Sambu noted that youths have reverted to illegal activities such as chang’aa brewing and bhang trafficking which have become rampant in the region.
“It is very sad that many young people have resorted to chang’aa business among many other illegal activities and drinking the illicit brew which is very harmful to life,” wondered Chief Sambu.
He accused parents of negligence and threatened to arrest any parent whose child will be found either drinking or trading in the outlawed business.
“Parents have absconded their traditional role of enforcing morality to their young ones. If any child is convicted of the illegal trade, then the parent will be co-charged if at all we want to combat this rising trend,” added Chief Sambu.
Chief Sambu urged the brewer who escaped to willingly surrender failure to which he will be hunted by the authorities to face the law and subsequent demolition of the house where he has been brewing the illicit brew.
“This man has been notorious in brewing alcohol in this area. His days are numbered and I request him to surrender before we follow him to his hideout,” advised the area Chief.
He urged the youths to abandon the business and engage in other meaningful and law abiding activities such as poultry farming to help them improve their standard of living.
