The National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada) has appointed Eunice Arubia as the new manager to head its regional office in Eldoret.
The appointment comes after the death of 28 people who consumed illicit brew in the region over the weekend.
Nacada chairman John Mututho said Arubia replaces Reverend Wangai Gachoka who has been moved to Nairobi.
Speaking on phone, Mututho said that some manufacturers were mixing methanol or ethanol with alcohol to make it more potent. He said that Nacada has seen an increase in the number of factories involved in the manufacture of alcohol and would make sure that the factories were closed down.
Mututho put on notice traders who mix their products with other products to increase their sales.
The practice, which is rampant in many urban areas, involves lacing mostly cakes and chocolate with alcohol.
“We have noticed that some traders are using this method to entice their customers. If found, the outlets will be closed,” the former Naivasha MP said.
