[Photo|Granton Samboja]Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja alongside his wife Stella, have awarded over 200 scholarships to Form One going students from vulnerable families within the county.The programme which is run through The Samboja Foundation under the Imarisha Elimu initiative, beneficiaries were picked from all the 20 wards in the county."Our long term and main agenda is improving our education standards in the county by giving disadvantaged children an opportunity to further their studies through our Imarisha Elimu Initiative. Most of the students are orphans while others have been brought up by single parents and some come from very poor families," said the governor on Tuesday.As the chairperson of the foundation, Samboja said he will further plans to sponsor bright students who completed Form Four to undertake specialized courses From June this year."We shall sponsor some of our children to undertake specialized courses like medicine and engineering so that they can help in building our County in future. We shall enter into an agreement with them so that when they complete the courses they work in the county government for some years before seeking employment from other areas."Samboja further challenged all students to work hard in their studies and further congratulated the education key players in Taita Taveta county."I will cater for the students pocket money every month for those students in boarding schools while those in day school will be given maize flour, sugar, tea leaves and other necessary items," he added.
