Migori county has set aside Kshs 20 Million to support bright but needy pupils who excelled in the 2013 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KSPE).

Two hundred students who scored 350 and above but are needy will benefit from school comprehensive scholarship initiative.Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado said the initiative will see such students join secondary schools and improve on the county’s literacy level. Speaking in his office over the ongoing vetting process, Migori County Executive Committee member in charge of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, Michael Ogutu promised to see a free and fair selection of the students.

In the sponsorship, five students will be identified from every ward in the 40 wards that make up Migori County, and each one will benefit from Sh100, 000 every year. According to the selection procedure, the students are first identified by members of the public who then send the lists to the County’s department of Education.

The department, through The County Sponsorship Selection Board (CSSB) will do the interviews to the shortlisted students He said this after the county government has also promised to increase the number of such beneficiaries every year. “ We appeal to other partners to join hands with the county government to help champion the initiative,” he said.
