The purpose of this move is to restore on the roads as well as reduce the number of accidents that occur daily.

Inspector general of police, Joseph Boinnet stated this on Monday morning while signing a MoU with NTSA at his Jogoo House office.

‘‘This MoU will go a long way in maintaining a transport system that is safe, reliable and efficient. This is also a way of properly enforcing the Traffic Laws,’’ said Boinnet.

Boinnet pointed out that the police service is doing its best in maintaining discipline on the roads as well as reducing the number of road accidents.

‘‘The police intend on cooperating with NTSA to bring sanity to our roads. The synergy with stakeholders such as the judiciary, matatu industry and insurance firms among others will create a strong, effective and efficient traffic management on our Kenyan roads,’’ reiterated Boinnet.

The police inspector stated that those officers who would be posted to liaise with NTSA would undergo a vigorous vetting process and for those who were above the inspector rank will have to have been cleared by the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) vetting board.

Those officers who pass the vetting process will be in charge of speed check limits, drunk driving and the enforcement of NTSA acts.
