More than 200 secondary school students from Komothai Ward have benefited from a bursary worth Sh1.9 million from the Kiambu County government.
Area MCA Kinuthia Mburuti says the money has been given out in line with the county government’s plan to uplift the level of education in Kiambu County. He also indicated that the fund will continually be increased to benefit as many needy students as possible.
“We had several applications for the bursaries and we have been able to give to only a few applicants. We are looking forward to have additional money so that no one who applies is turned away,” Mburu says.
Mburu added that the exercise is meant to ensure that no child in Kiambu County misses education due to lack of fees as has been the case since the introduction of free primary education.
“We have the highest dropout rate as pupils cannot continue with their education after primary school. This fund will go long way in increasing the transition rate from primary to secondary school,” Mburu said.
The MCAs countrywide have been pressing for a fund similar to the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which they say is meant to bring developments to their wards.
