Security officers from Eldoret town have nabbed over 2,000 litres of illicit liquor following an intergovernmental agencies operation in the outskirts of Eldoret town on Thursday.
The illegal alcohol was impounded in a rental house in Roadblock estate along Eldoret - Uganda highway.
Police believe the liquor was to be distributed to various outlets in Eldoret town but they managed to discover it following tipoff from the public.
Eldoret West OCPD, Samuel Mutunga who led the operation said collaboration between various agencies enabled his officers to act swiftly.
During the operation police, impounded three brands of the liquor which included Trace, African Spear, and people vodka all manufactured locally.
"Through the help of officers from KEBS, KRA and Anti-counterfeit Agency (ACA), we have discovered that this alcohol does not meet the required standard to be in our markets," Mutunga told the press.
"All these alcohol is packed locally and it contains some impurities with fake seals from Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS)," he added.
The OCPD said investigations have been launched to establish the origin of some the raw materials which were found in the house where the liquor being packaged.
Uasin Gishu Alcohol drinks and Control Board director Sila Boit who was part of the operation said they will investigate how the suspect acquired the license from the county.
