First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has appealed to the public and private sectors to partner for better health service delivery.
Speaking on Thursday when she was invited to preside over the opening of a specialized maternity theatre and neonatal unit at Kapkatet Hospital in Kericho County, Mrs. Kenyatta said that the health sector needs more input to ensure expectant mothers do not suffer when it comes to delivery.
She noted that over years, mothers from different parts of the nation have been forced to walk for miles in search of health care services when the different stakeholders are not working together. The facility was constructed at a cost of Sh. 200 million.
Margaret said that the private and public sectors can have a positive impact on the health of mothers if they agree to work together.
“Partnerships like what we are witnessing here today have a great impact on the lives of many Kenyans, especially in the country’s health sector.“
"This touches me because I have seen how families and communities suffer unbearable pain due to lack of health services, particularly those from poor communities who are more vulnerable to increased health risks,” the First Lady said.
She also urged the county governments to support the national government in the quest to ensure better health provision to mothers.
