The officers arrested three persons in connection with the incident.

The DCI has said, in a tweet, that the trio will be presented in court and charged with possession of stolen items.

The suspects were taken behind bars after they failed to account for the items following the crackdown.

“@DCI_Kenya Detectives & @PoliceKE officers based at Kamukunji, in pursuit of information on notorious stolen mobile phone dealers raided a shop within Muoroto along Jogoo road where they recovered a total of 515 assorted mobile phones majority of them being smartphones,” said DCI.

It added: "Three suspects who could not give a proper account of all the phones in their possession were arrested. The trio will appear in court, will be charged with having in their possession suspected stolen property contrary to Sec 323 of the Penal Code and the recovered items presented as exhibit.”

The arrest comes after the DCI warned Kenyans against purchasing items from dealers with unknown locations.

The DCI warned that both the dealer and buyer risk arrest if found in possession of stolen items.
