Police in Naivasha, Nakuru County, are holding a man accused of hacking his mother to death with an axe.
The incident happened at Gatamanyu village in Naivasha on Sunday.
Villagers said that the suspect, 48, and is reportedly said to be mentally challenged went berserk before the incident, and had been hostile to his 81-year-old mother for some time.
A villager said that he attacked her while in the kitchen, with attempts by neighbours to save the woman proving futile.
“The woman was in the kitchen when the son, who was wielding an axe, attacked her. The screams attracted members of the public, but there was little they could do,” said Geoffrey Waithaka.
The man who has reportedly been in and out of mental facilities later surrendered himself to the police.
Meanwhile, a dead body was found dumped along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road on Sunday, barely a week after another body, also showing strangulation signs was found in the same area.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the same, adding that some suspects have since been arrested over the incident.
Jackson Koigo, a resident, said that a suspicious vehicle was spotted dropping something at the scene on Saturday night, adding that such cases are now a norm.
“We are worried by the cases of dumping of bodies in this area, as we are recording at least two cases every month,” he said.
