Admission letters for candidates who sat for the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination will be issued online, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.
Speaking while launching the Form One Selection on at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi on Thursday, the CS said the ministry is working on a web platform that will allow candidates download admission letters of the schools they will have been selected to join.
Matiang’i stated that the candidates will be able to log to the system and download the letters once the selection exercise is over.
“As a ministry we are taking measures aimed at ensuring that student’s get admission letters to the schools they have been selected to join on time to avoid the confusion that is often experienced,” he said.
The CS said that the move is aimed at curbing cases where some people take advantage of the selection process to cone parents.
He added that the move will also expedite the process and ensure that candidates join their preferred schools on time.
Matiang’i said that students will be required to log onto www.education.go.ke to get the letters once the selection is complete. The CS said that once launched the system will be used onwards adding that its part of the reforms being taken in the education sector.
He asked all secondary schools to ensure that their website platforms are working to enable students log in and get their letters as links to the schools will provided on the ministry’s portal.
Matiang’i’ however said that the ministry will still send out hard copy of admission letters to candidates adding that the two processes will run concurrently.
The move by the ministry to issue letters through online system has been supported by a section of parents in Ruaka.
Jenifer said that the move will save on time and ensure that candidates join their schools early.
“The idea by the education ministry to provide admission letters online is welcomed and it will save parents from the agony they go through in getting admission letters,” she said.
927,401 pupils sat for the 2015 KCPE examination with the ministry saying at least 195,000 candidates who got below the 250 marks in the exam will miss out on Form One selection.
