The County government of Uasin Gishu awarded a scholarship to Phenice Kipruto, a boy who benefited from a four year Co-operative Bank Kenya (Official) scholarship through the governor's initiative.

Phenice a bright but needy from Cheptabach, Megun ward scored 389 marks in the 2016 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). He was was called to join Chewoiyet High School, in Kapenguria, West Pokot County.

Speaking on-behalf of governor Jackson Mandago, County Sports and Youth Affairs Chief Officer Eunice Kerich said the County government was an equal opportunity employer and observed equity in the distribution of resources.

She emphasised the County's commitment to uplift the youth across the County.

"The boy attracted the governor's eye when well wishers posted his plea in the social media as her mother is a casual worker and couldn't raise his fees. We are ready to help every child who shows the County government their capability to perform better in education,'' said Kerich.

She further urged the youth to enroll in vocational training institutions across the County and brighten their future.
