Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has assured aspirants seeking to use the party in next year’s elections that there will be free, fair and transparent nominations.
Speaking on Thursday at Orange House in Nairobi after holding a meeting with party officials, Mr Odinga said that the party has put in place specific measures that will guarantee fair primaries.
The Orange party leader also said that aspirants will be given equal chance in the exercise, adding that mechanisms have been put in place to handle complaints after nominations.
“We want to assure ODM members and aspirants seeking to vie for seats in next year’s elections on ODM ticket that there will be fair and transparent nominations,” he said.
Odinga added that the ODM elections board was preparing well ahead of the nominations and subsequent 2017 elections.
At the same time, he warned ODM branch officials who are said to be recruiting and vetting new members and political seats aspirants, highlighting that these officials had no mandate to vet new members or aspirants.
“The mandate to vet new party members lies with NEB and the party will not hesitate to take action against rogue branch officials contravening party regulations,” he added.
The meeting at the Orange House was attended by other top party officials and was aimed at evaluating party progress in the run-up to the 2017 elections.
