A political activist has said 2017 will be the most expensive election in the history of Kenya.
According to a Nakuru-based political activist Henry Langat, the 2017 polls will be about money and not policies or ideologies.
Langat said the election results will be determined by how much money the various aspirants will be willing to put in during the campaigns.
Speaking Sunday in Nakuru town, Langat said hundreds of billions of shillings will be spend during the campaigns and candidates will do all they can to outdo each other financially as a means of winning the election.
“The 2017 polls will be about money and nothing else and those who will be willing to pour out more money will have higher chances of winning. Voters will likely be swayed by money from aspirants and this is what will determine the outcome of the polls,” said Langat.
“From the MCAs to the President, I can tell you that the 2017 polls will be the most expensive in Kenyan history and those aspirants who don’t have money will have a hard time trying to convince voters,” he added.
“The current political elected leaders ... are financially loaded and that will be their greatest strength during the campaigns. The 2017 polls will not be about policies but money,” he said.
He said even political parties will try to outdo each other by spending more than what their rivals will be spending.
“Political parties will be focused on winning more seats within the county assemblies, Parliament and Senate and this will mean that they use hundreds of millions and the party that will be willing to pour out millions will have an upper hand in this,” he said.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has already set out limits on the amount each politician will be allowed to use during the 2017 campaigns.
