However, if you're planning to have kids someday, here is some essential information that you need to know.

Chances of you failing to conceive and of miscarriage are higher in your late 30s and 40s.

The odds of getting pregnant while in your 40s are quite minimal because women get less fertile as they age.

This means as a woman ages, her eggs also age and in the process, the number and quality of these eggs decrease overtime.

Research also suggests that a woman in her 40s has only a five per cent chance of getting pregnant each month.

Miscarriages and stillbirths are also more common in women when they're in their late thirties and forties.

However, if you're in this age bracket and you're trying to get pregnant, you should keep on trying as there are still chances you might be able to.

Men's fertility also declines as they get older.

Just like a woman, a man's potential of fathering a child also decreases as he ages.

Men who are under 40 years have a higher chance of fathering a child compared to those who are older than 40.

This is because the quality of a man's sperm also decreases as he gets older

It is also important to note that contrary to people's beliefs, the use of contraceptives cannot make you infertile.

Once you get off contraception, you're likely to conceive just as much as a woman who has never used contraception.
