Kakamega County is set to host the 39th edition of the Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) games in August 2018.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya hosted members of the KECOSO governing council led by Chairman Cyril Wayong'o where he promised to support the sports festival that brings together Kenyan parastatals in the Communication, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Transport sectors. 

Oparanya who has a rich sports background having been a footballer in his youthful years and risen to the helm of AFC Leopards Soccer Club as a vice chairman, lauded the organisation for empowering young Kenyans through sports. 

He said completion of Bukhungu stadium in three years time would go a long way in spotting and nurturing talents in the county and improving the socio-economic status of residents. 

He announced that more funds would be allocated by his government to develop various sports across the county.

KECOSO Chairman Cyril Wayong'o said a total 12 sports disciplines will be showcased with Soccer and Athletics being staged at Bukhungu stadium as the two week long Golf extravaganza takes place at Kakamega Golf Club. 

Other disciplines on card are Basketball, Volleyball, Darts, Netball and Pool among others.Kakamega last hosted the games in 2006 with Kisumu county playing host to participating teams in last year's edition.

Also present during the Monday meeting was Kakamega County Assembly Speaker Morris Buluma, County Government Social Services, Youths and Sports CeC Robert Sumbi, veteran journalist and KECOSO Secretary General Omole Asiko among others.
