A class eight pupil missed the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) rehearsals on Monday as he is nursing burn wounds in hospital.
The KCPE candidate whose hands were burnt by his parents last week is recovering at the Ahero Sub-County Hospital.
The candidate who schools at the Kasuna Primary School in Nyando was burnt by his father, Ojoro Omuya, and his stepmother, Rose Akoth for allegedly stealing their phone.
The 14-year-old boy was visited by well-wishers who said that he is responding well to medication.
The candidate is likely to sit his exams from the hospital as his hands are yet to fully recover, Citizen Digital has reported.
The pupil's parents were arrested last week after police officers were informed about the boy's burn wounds.
The two are being held at the Ahero Police Station. This comes after a court in Nyando directed that the two remain in custody as investigations continue.
The duo had initially coached the boy to lie to the police about the incident.
The boy revealed to the police that the stepmother had wrapped his hands with newspapers, poured paraffin on them before setting them ablaze.
He, however, denied stealing the phone. His parents are expected to take a plea at the Nyando court.
