Cristiano Ronaldo will not face charges on alleged rape case according to the US prosecutors.

The football star was accused by Kathryn Mayorga, 34, who claimed the Juventus talisman raped her in a Las Vegas hotel back in 2009.

The two were reported to have reached an out-of-court settlement, however, Mayorga decided to reopen the case in 2018 where Ronaldo strongly denied the allegations.

According to Clark County District Attorney's office, the victim had truly reported the case in 2009 but she had failed to report the scene of the crime and even the attacker hence the police could not conduct a meaningful investigation.

The statement released by Las Vegas prosecutors on Monday revealed that the information reviewed cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt thus no charges will be made against the player.

"Based upon a review of information at this time, the allegations of sexual assault against Cristiano Ronaldo cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore, no charges will be forthcoming," read the statement seen by BBC.

German weekly magazine Der Spiegel first reported the story about the allegation in 2018.

Mayorga is said to have reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo in 2010 with the later involving a whooping Sh37.171 billion to have the matter never on the public domain.

Reopening of a the case according to Ms Mayorga's lawyer was inspired by the #MeTooMovement.

However, Ronaldo has not denied having met Mayorga adding that it was consensual.

At the time of the alleged incident, Ronaldo was playing for Manchester United.
